Taking care of routine care and nutrition

Taking care of routine care and nutrition for the children can be challenging but fun. For diapers, we got huggies and drypers and personally, it was me and my helper that did the routine care for them. For their baths time, we got I sang and played with them as a mother, and it helped me to bond with them. I also gave them nutrition - white/brown rice/ with carrot, chinese yam, corn, tomato, pumpkin, spinach and potato, 3 veg and 1 fish/ chicken for their porridge meal. My mother in-law was very particular about nutrition, and she would buy ngor he, the baby weaning fish and the fish good for breastfeeding to my son and daughter. What a blessing to have a mother-in-law that can can have this knowledge and willing to impart these skills to me as a daughter-in-law! I was also able to think of things that I could do with them such as flash cards, educational montessori toys as well as christian songs and nursery rhymes. They responded well with all these as well as love and cuddling. I enjoyed bonding with my children over their meals at times when they ate fruit.

My second child- Daughter Ai En Melody

This is to tell of my second child, a daughter named Ai En Melody. She was born on the 1st of December 2025, at night. She had a head full of hair and very healthy and reddish skin. I decided that I would breastfeed her for a full six months to a year to get her immune system up and going. Pregnancy When I was pregnant with Ai En, I ate traditional Singaporean favourites like laksa, chee chong fun and drank soya milk throughout the pregnacy with black seasame powder. I also had chicken soup and bird's nest every week. I exercised by walking everyday for half an hour to an hour and looked after my health and hygiene. I did not fall sick at all during my two pregnancies. In addition, I equipped myself with knowledge about child development and practiced deep breathing, singing and listening to music, singing with her when I had the time after my first born rested. I listened to the older folks and stayed clear of cold drinks, coffee and tea and remained pleasant despite some physical and personal hardship. Birth For Ai En Melody birth, I opted for a natural birth and pushed her out in five minutes after my water bag burst. She was born a healthy 3kg and had no major health or breathing difficulties. Personal Care I took care of her by buying her huggies diaper and getting her lotion from Cetaphil and bathing shampoo from Johnson. I realised that after becoming a parent, it is important to be practical and money wise and I would go for items that stretch the dollar on my family rather than on myself. Her haircut and toothbrush are also taken cared of by me and her grandparents love to get her clothing.

My first born first 2 years

This is what I did for my first born during his first two years before he went to childcare. From his first month, I showed him educational picture books and talk and regularly cuddled him. Being a teacher, I used what I learnt during my practicums and fed and encouraged him to eat on his own , I also changed his diapers and bought clothes for him every few months together with my mother-in-law. I read to him at home, sang Christian songs and nursery rhymes, exposed him to the world of people and things as well as taught him how to think and behave himself at home and outside. All the way till he went to Hatch preschool Bukit Batok at 2, I was doing the learning and recording of the anecdotal record and my mother-in-law, Mdm Yong Yen Ling took educational videos and pictures of my son every month. My helper worked together with me to do the routine care for my son and I was happy sending him to childcare and back as well as monitoring his progress at school.

My Pregnancy Journey

This is my 9 mth pregnancy journey telling you what I experience, what I eat, what I do to take care of myself and support during this time. During this 9 mths, I was a stay- at- home mum, a part time tutor. Food I drank bird's nest and chicken soup from the 3rd mth onwards every week and I also ate fresher foods and vegetables. Served fruits to my parents and my husband and in the last month I drank fesh coconut water. During the whole 9 months, I stayed home and ate home cooked food either prepared by me or my helper. Spirituality Me and my husband are Christians and we spend time reading and discussing God's word in the mornings and evenings. In the mornings, I would sing a Christian song to John, our firstborn and remind my husband of god's goodness. We practice thankfulness and gratitude and choose peace over quarrelling and with that, we know and acknowledge that God is in control. Children care For my first born son, John, me , my helper and my mother-in- law helped in various ways. Being an early childhood teacher, I taught and am the steady support and love for my son when others in the house were busy. My helper helped with the routine care like bathing and diaper changes, and my mother- in law with the nutrition and the toys, educational development. My father - in law also helped with the logistics around the house like pram and equipment set-up for the house and my husband was a great encourager and provided the face and the support for the family.
